The Institute aims to provide high performance computing facilities to assist students with their legal research.
Eight networked computer workstations, providing access to a full range of computing and information services, have been established in room G2 on the ground floor at the Institute. Each workstation PC is an IBM compatible machine operating under Windows XP. A note on each computer indicate network login procedures. Networked and attached laser printing facilities are also provided. A combination door lock ensures that these shared facilities are available to authorised users only.
Groups of networked computer workstations, providing access to key electronic information services are located on the Library Concourse on the 4th floor and in the Electronic Legal Research Training Unit, a room on the 4th floor. Additional computers are located in the Reading Rooms. All IALS computer workstations are IBM compatible machines operating under Windows XP. Each machine is switched on and logged into the Institute network when the Library opens.
IALS research students are welcome to bring personal laptop computers to use in the library. Power and data sockets are located beside most tables and in the study carrels on 2nd and 3rd floors for suitably configured and virus-protected equipment. Ethernet cables may be borrowed from the Library Enquiry Desk, 4th floor.
WIALS - a Wireless Internet access service is also available on all floors at IALS (except a designated area in the 2nd floor Library reading room).
IALS research students are able to login to the WiFi Internet service using the barcode and family name from their IALS Library SAS card.
IALS computing equipment and network facilities are made available subject to compliance with the conditions of use.
